An Attitude Determination and Control System (ADCS) implementing an optimal Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) to stabilize a tumbling spacecraft immediately after deployment.
Develop a controller capable of rapidly reducing high initial angular rates while minimizing actuator effort and ensuring closed-loop stability.
Approach
Designed an LQR-based optimal controller using a linearized spacecraft attitude model. The controller computes optimal control torques that balance fast detumbling performance with efficient actuator utilization.
Outcome
Successfully demonstrated rapid spacecraft detumbling with smooth control actions, validating the effectiveness of optimal control techniques for early mission attitude stabilization
